MY VINTAGE SHOPPING SECRETS!

Desde adolescente soy fan de la ropa vintage, así que con el paso del tiempo he descubierto algunos trucos y tips para ser todo un profesional a la hora de comprar prendas vintage; Aquí te confesaré 5 de ellos, quien dice y quizás te conviertas en la próxima Sophia Amoruso. 

I’ve been shopping vintage clothes since I was a teenager, I know, it doesn't sound like it’s been so many years, but I have some tricks and tips that will make you a professional, maybe you can be the next Sophia Amoruso, because of these few secrets.

Secret número one: PATIENCE

Cuando vas comprar ropa vintage muchas veces son montañas de ropa, o muchísimos racks llenos de prendas, así que lo primero que necesitas ademas de dinero, claro, es mucha paciencia, créeme, la necesitaras, ya que tendrás que buscar gancho por gancho y prácticamente prenda por prenda hasta que encuentres la prenda ideal.

When you go vintage hunting you need first some cash and then tons of patience. Patience is very important because you need to dedicate time and the energy to going through every single rack full of clothes, that’s the only way that you will find that really cool jacket or those really sick jeans.

Secret Número Two: Buy it immediately!

Compralo inmediatamente!

Ya sé, muchas veces uno va de compras con algún amigo, y uno no está preparado para gastar en ropa, la vida de adulto tiene muchas responsabilidades, pero digamos que estás de compras con tu BFF y de casualidad encuentras esa prenda con la que hablas soñado, por nada del mundo digas: “Regreso en unos días a comprarlo”, Ya que probablemente esa prenda ya no estará en la tienda, cuando tu regreses, ¡nada más doloroso que dejar ir la prenda de tus sueños!. Así que pide que te la aparten a tu nombre o mejor aun sólo pídele a tu amigo que te complete para comprarla, pero por nada del mundo tardes en devolverle su dinero, eso no esta nada cool.

Buy it immediately!

Yeah, I know, sometimes you go shopping with a friend and you’re not ready to waste some money buying clothes that day, but if by any chance you find that really amazing piece that you were dreaming about: don't over think it, don't say, - Well, I’ll come back later when I have the money. Honestly that piece may be gone, so just ask if they can put it on hold under your name, or ask some friend to lend you money. (Just pay your friend back ASAP).

Secret Número Three: OFF SEASON

Nunca olvides en darle un vistazo a la ropa fuera de temporada, este tip es básico, quizás encuentres ese abrigo que tanto te hizo falta en el invierno pasado. Nada como estar listo para la temporada que viene, además que muchas veces las cosas fuera de temporada están con un excelente descuento. #ahorrandoparalarenta 

Check the rack of “off season” clothes, maybe you can find that coat that you needed the previous winter; and the good part is, it it will be cheaper! #Savingfortherent. This is a good technique to save some money and be ready for the upcoming seasons.

Secret Número Four: HUNTING DESIGNERS

Algunas tiendas vintage o de segunda mano, se especializan en tener prendas o accesorios de diseñador, pero normalmente esas tiendas suben demasiado los precios, eso no quiere decir que no haya posibilidades de que encuentres algo en alguna tienda de pulgas, sólo tienes que tener paciencia, el que busca encuentra.

Sí por alguna razón encontraste una pieza de diseñador, antes que nada, mantén la calma, checa que los cierres funciones, que no tenga hoyos ó manchas en ninguna parte, checa el precio, si crees que lo vale ¡compralo! sí tienes que preguntar el precio final, no lo preguntes como sí hubieses encontrado una mina de oro (aunque metafóricamente lo hayas hecho) muchas veces dependiendo del cliente suben o bajan el precio, así que tú actúa como si fueras a pagar por unas cortinas.

Some vintage stores specialize in designer clothes or accessories, but sometimes the prices are way to expensive, that doesn't mean you won't find designer pieces at the flea market or  other cheaper thrift stores, just look carefully, if you find something check the price first, if is worth it, check the pockets, the zippers, is it missing a button? if it’s in good condition or almost perfect, just get it, if it doesn't have price tag and you need to ask for the final price, calm down and put your poker face on, if you show that you’re really excited they will charge you way to much.

Secret Número Five: SHOULD I? 

Digamos que encontraste los jeans o la chaqueta de tus sueños, pero puede ser que la prenda necesite de trabajo extra, ya sea cambiar el cierre o hacerle el dobladillo, quizás tenga una mancha que te costara quitarla en una buena tintorería, si tu eres muy organizado y esas tareas extras no son un impedimento, ve y paga por la prenda, pero sí te conoces suficientemente y sabes que probable que esos pantalones se quedaran arrinconados en tu closet,  y quizás se te olvide su existencia, entonces mejor no los compres: así me ha pasado muchas veces, #tristerealidad 

Well, let’s say you found that dress or jacket of your dreams, but it has some extra work to do, maybe the zipper doesn't work, or it has a stain that will cost you some extra money at the cleaners, or maybe you need to hem those pants. If you are organized and you can add that extra homework to your to do list, go ahead and get it, but if you don't, that piece will probably be sleeping inside your closet and you will forget about it for moths or years. Yeah, It  has happened to me #sadstories

Secret Número Six: EXTRA BONUS!

No olvides de comprar lo que necesitas, quizás te urgen unos “nuevos” jeans ó quieres “pimpear" una chaqueta de jean, ya se que es muy tentador comprar todo por que algunos lugares son sumamente baratos y querrás llevarte mil prendas, pero nada como comprar responsablemente: sin olvidar el punto 2 y jamás el 5. 

Shop what you need, maybe you want some “new” jeans or you want a jean jacket to customized it #DIY, some places are really cheep and I’m sure you will want to shop the whole store for $20 but be responsible just don't forget items 2 and 5.

Estos son mis secretos a la hora de comprar vintage, se que te convertirás en todo un profesional, así que, de nada!!! ¡¡¡a comprar!!!
