Stament Jacket #NYFW ft Ponchos Rojas

Este pasado NYFW tuve la oportunidad de vestir esta increíble chamarra ensamblada, bajo la dirección creativa de Catalina, arquitecta y diseñadora nacida en La Paz, Bolivia, quien a travez de Ponchos Rojas rescata textiles tradicionales fusionando y rescatando también piezas vintage contemporáneas como esta biker jacket, dando como resultado una fusion verdaderamente única pero, sobre todo,  con una gran historia dentro.

En esta prenda existe la combinación de un poncho Huayruru (rojo y negro) de Warisata, provincia de Omasuyos en La Paz, y una chaqueta tipo motociclista de manga corta con inspiración vintage de 1980.

Estos ponchos son un textil típico Aymara donde la característica de diseño dominante son las rayas, se cree que las rayas se inspiraron en la topografía de la tierra, los niveles horizontales a medida que se atraviesa el altiplano.

Es importante tener en cuenta la importancia de los colores. Huayruru (Aymara) y Wayruru (Quechua) es una pequeña semilla roja y negra que se cree que es un poderoso amuleto de buena suerte utilizado por los Incas para su protección. Esta protección se incorpora a los Ponchos Huayruru, ya que fueron usados por los “Guereros”, el rojo representa la sangre que se ha derramado durante las luchas por la liberación, y el negro representa la muerte y el duelo por estas luchas.

Estos ponchos también se usan para ceremonias, actos religiosos como el solsticio, desfiles y actos oficiales.

This past NYFW I had the opportunity to wear this incredible jacket assembled under the creative direction of Catalina, architect and designer born in La Paz, Bolivia, who through "Poncho Rojas" is able to rescuing and fuse traditional textiles with modern vintage pieces like this biker jacket, resulting a truly unique fusion but, above all, with a great history inside.

In this garment there is the combination of a Huayruru Poncho (red and black) from Warisata, Omasuyos province in La Paz, and a vintage-inspired short-sleeved motorcycle jacket from 1980.

These ponchos are a typical Aymara textile where the dominant design feature is the stripes, the stripes are believed to be inspired by the topography of the land, the horizontal levels as the highlands are traversed.

It is important to note the importance of colors. Huayruru (Aymara) and Wayruru (Quechua) is a small red and black seed believed to be a powerful good luck charm used by the Incas for their protection. This protection is incorporated into the Huayruru Ponchos, since they were used by the "Guereros", the red represents the blood that was spilled during the liberation struggles, and the black represents death and mourning for these struggles.

These ponchos are also used for ceremonies, religious acts such as the solstice, parades, and official acts.
